How to Deal with Breakout-Prone Skin

Acne, or breakouts, are caused when the pores around small hair follicles on your skin become blocked with dead skin, oil, makeup, or dirt. This can lead to redness, blackheads, whiteheads, and even scarring if not dealt with.

Acne has numerous causes, most of which are natural and happen to everyone, including hormonal changes, stress, and genetics. Those with naturally oily skin will also be more prone to clogged pores. The best way to deal with breakouts is to prevent them before they start. Wash your face regularly with exfoliating soap, but be wary of over-cleaning. Too much product or irritation can exacerbate skin problems. Do not exfoliate more than twice a week.

Use skin products (including sunscreen) that do not increase your face’s oiliness and make sure to wash your face daily with an oil free cleanser.

Get plenty of sleep, drink lots of water, and make sure that anything that comes into contact with your face (like your hands, pillowcase, face towel) is cleaned regularly.

Contact a dermatologist in extreme cases.
